Build a Home Page the Right Way

Posted in Web Tips on the August 30th, 2008

A home page is basically the main page of a website which is the first thing that an internet browser or surfer first sees once he/she visited your site. This is part of a web page (though in this case since it is termed as “homepage” stands for the very first page or the ‘home” of the site) that features clickable links, illustrations and graphics displayed on the computer screen via web browsers.

In building a website, it is important that you have basic knowledge of programming or html coding; although this concept has now become obsolete with the emergence of new types of website builder tools that enables the user – even if he or she does not have a single idea with regards to programming and web designing – to create visually pleasing and professional looking websites in an instant. For both the seasoned graphic artists and newbie web designer, these web building tools that can be obtained online provides added ease and efficiency in making their websites.

Key Points to Remember When Building your HomePage Elegance and over-all appearance counts. If you want to get positive feedbacks and responses from your site visitors, then keep in mind the following pointers when you build home page.

1) Use animations and graphic effects in your website (especially on the home page where this is commonly seen) as sparingly as possible and only when necessary.

This factor can be attributed to the fact that web surfers can tend to be impatient and loose interest once they discover that your website takes much too long to load. The reason for this can be found on the excessive use of graphic effects and animations on websites which, sometimes requires higher bandwidth to be downloaded fast; well what if your visitor – read: Potential Customer – has a slow connection? Definitely, you can say “adios” to possible sales and traffic for your website. Also, compatibility of your website with regards to the different web browsers must also be checked since, some websites cannot be viewed on certain web browsers.

2) Use only the needed features and applications for your home page – but this advice is also applicable for the rest of your web pages since functionality is the main keyword here.

You try browsing some websites on the internet. What do you see? Yes, basically you will encounter websites with homepage designs varying from the pure text and colored images down to interactive graphics made possible with Flash effects and other multimedia applications. But more or less, they all have one thing in common: the scroll bar found on the side or sometimes on below the screen area.

This scroll bar is one of the features necessary for operating a webpage, in this case the home page. It enables the user to discover more links as he or she continues to browse the site; while for the site owner, enables him to place more links farther below on the lower part of the page where they are available. With vertical scrolling, it is relatively easier to operate the page thus facilitating ease and fast execution of operation; while vertical scrolling on the other hand, is a big no because, instead of enabling the user to see everything that your homepage has to offer, he/ she would need to scroll to the right in order to see the rest of your content and graphics.

Besides, using both is impractical also; just try to imagine where your page will land in terms of functionality once you do this.

3) Make sure that all links are present and can be easily found by the site user when you build home page.

Some sites make it a practice to put the links on either the left or side panel so the user can easily find what he/she is looking for. While others would rather incorporate the links as part of the content (yes, that is one usefulness of content – and you thought they are nothing but mere decorations huh). They are both good choices actually; you can adopt whichever fits the way your site was built as long as you are sure that the links can be easily found and is fully functional.

IP Centrex Billing: Do You Have The Call Accounting & IP Billing System In Place?

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 23rd, 2008

With all the hype about IP Centrex, you’d think that every business in American had switched to IP telephony. Analyst firm Ovum estimates that IP Centrex and hosted VoIP revenues will amount to around US $6.6 billion worldwide by 2008, up from US $255 million this year. Frost & Sullivan puts a US $7.9 billion valuation on the market by 2009. It expects, conservatively, that IP Centrex will account for at least 15 percent of all business lines by the turn of the decade, double the size of the current Centrex market.

Many end-users no longer want to have the headache of managing the PBX and its services, and service providers can manage these devices remotely on behalf of customers. This reduces the burden on the IT function within the company and, with financing deals, can even reduce capital expenditure.

How do you know if IP Centrex is right for your company? It’s not just about the money, but rather how the features, functionality, and system control play a significant role in making the right choice. It can be relatively risk free – assuming the service provider can provide adequate service and accurate billing along with all those IP benefits. And as businesses view data as an equally essential method of communications and see their workplaces becoming virtual entities, stretched across multiple locations, IP Centrex becomes more desirable than ever before.

One of the issues with IP Centrex is the IP billing capability of the provider. Every outsourced telecom provider should be able to offer:

– Bucket billing plans (like cellular billing)
— Unlimited billing rates or plans
— Taxes (up to 10 levels)
— Real-time or web based call reports for end users
— Staggered billing
— QuickBooks Interface
— – Cost & Charge – Basic Cost Allocation/Billing Software Module
— – Billing of one-time and recurring charges

If you are considering an IP Centrex system, make sure your provider has all the call accounting and IP Billing systems in place.

The Main Street Electrical Parade

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 21st, 2008

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Walt Disney World proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electrosynthomagnetic musical sounds… the ‘Main Street Electrical Parade!’”

The legendary Main Street Electrical Parade originally debuted in Disneyland on June 17, 1972. Since then, it has been seen by guests in all four of Disney’s theme parks, including Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland. Currently, the parade still makes its daily appearance at Disney’s California Adventure in Disneyland, and at Disneyland Paris. In Walt Disney World, the parade was replaced by “SpectroMagic,” and in Tokyo Disneyland, it was replaced by “Dreamlights.”

On June 11, 1977, a version of the parade that was slightly different than the Disneyland original debuted in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Floats in the parade included the Blue Fairy from “Pinocchio,” the Casey Junior Circus Train (from “Dumbo”), with Goofy at the controls, pulling a huge bass drum that read, “The Magic Kingdom Presents Main Street Electrical Parade” in multicolored lights.

Sponsored by Energizer, more than 27 tons of batteries powered the lights, audio and floats – they provided enough power to light 32 homes. The final float was a tribute to America. The memorable theme from the parade was adapted from a 1967 synthesizer piece known as “Baroque Hoedown,” written by Gershon Kingsley and Jean-Jacques Perrey. It was discovered by Jack Wagner, the longtime “voice of Disneyland.” (He’s the monorail narrator… you know, the “Please stand clear of the doors” guy). Paul Beaver, a pioneer in the world of synthesized music, took the song and mixed in themes from some of its classic films. The tune was updated in 1977 by Don Dorsey.

After 15 seasons in Orlando, it made its final journey down Main Street in Walt Disney World on September 14, 1992, before it was moved to Disneyland Paris. It was replaced by a new spectacle of nighttime lights and music, “SpectroMagic.” The Magic Kingdom’s most technologically advanced parade to date, “SpectroMagic” featured classic Disney characters like Mickey, who conjures up the parade through his sparkling crystal ball, and Goofy, who performs in the parade band.

SpectroMagic uses advanced technologies such as 100 miles of fiber optic cables and threads to cast more than 72,000 watts of light onto the streets of the Magic Kingdom. The more than 250,000 fiber optic points of light are found in the form of dancing Disney characters, birds, butterflies and other animals. In fact, more than 30 computers are used to control the lights alone! The opening features Mickey and the Spectrowizards, with the finale including the wicked Chernabog from Fantasia. On May 28, 1999, the Main Street Electrical Parade made its return to Walt Disney World as part of the Millennium Celebration… Sort of.

Instead of the Walt Disney World version that was now in France, the Disneyland version that had been running until 1996 was brought over. It underwent a dramatic “makeover” including the addition 575,000 new lights, and replaced “SpectroMagic.” On April 1, 2001, this cherished favorite ended its run at Walt Disney World permanently to make way for the return of “SpectroMagic.” The Main Street Electrical Parade was renamed “Disney’s Electrical Parade” and was moved to Disney’s California Adventure in July of 2001.

Louis Mongello has been fascinated by Walt Disney World throughout his more than 40 visits, and in the process learned everything he could about the history, secrets and inner workings of the resort. He is also the author of the Walt Disney World Trivia Book: Secrets, History and Fun Facts Behind the Magic

Add Me to the List, Mr. Blair

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 21st, 2008

The terrorists are winning. Gradually but perceptibly, the USA and the United Kingdom (UK) are shedding their liberal democratic veneer, axing their traditions, reinterpreting their constitution (USA) and case law (UK) and, thus, becoming police states.

Both the US Patriot Act, recently extended by Congress and Tony Blair’s newly acquired powers to exclude and deport not only active terrorists but also people who disagree with his foreign policy suspend long-standing and hard-won human and civil rights. The right to privacy has been all but eradicated in both countries.

Blair and Bush exercise self-defense through moral suicide. Visitors to the UK as well as residents and naturalized Britons must adhere to Britain’s set of values and observe them, thunders the former. Presumably, it is the same set of values that Blair is so bent on bending and ignoring. And as for Bush – remember Guantanamo and Abu-Ghraib.

The UK will maintain a registry of undesirables. Please add me to the list, Mr. Blair. I believe that the terrorist attacks in London were a desperate and criminal response to your own war crimes throughout the world and, lately, on a monstrous scale, in Iraq. Terrorism is deplorable and red in tooth and claw. It should be fought with determination and imagination – not with oppression and slaughters of the innocent.

Your mother should have taught you that hanging around bad company invariably ends badly. Evidently, she failed in this particular respect. You cast your obsequious lot with a narcissistic, thuggish, gun-toting, trigger-happy, bible-thumping, and dangerously violent nation, the United States of America. Violence breeds counter-violence and profound contempt. You found yourself on the receiving end of both in ample doses in July 2005. The taste of one’s medicine is always bitter.

In a string of uninterrupted and unpunished war crimes, the UK and the USA (and Israel and France) taught Muslim militants that civilians are potential warriors and merit no special treatment or protection. International law has become the self-interested and biased “justice” of the victors, a policy tool, a discriminatory travesty, worthy only of condemnation.

From Dresden to Hiroshima, through Vietnam and Yugoslavia, and down to Palestine and Iraq, the hectoring and hypocritical West itself made no distinction between peaceful population and combatants. Lately, it took to invading or threatening to invade Muslim territories, occupying holy places, and massacring tens of thousands of innocents in the process. More than 100,000 civilians died in Iraq since the American-British led “liberation”.

Yet, as New-York and Madrid and London can attest, ignoring one’s own rules of engagement in warfare is a recipe for recurrent disaster. By courting the USA, Blair is courting a pernicious transformation in the nature of his people and country that generations of future patriots and compatriots are bound to mourn.

Computer-Virus Writer’s: A Few Bats In The Belfry?

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 17th, 2008

“Male. Obsessed with computers. Lacking a girlfriend. Aged 14 to 34. Capable of creating chaos worldwide.”

The above description is the profile of the average computer-virus writer, according to Jan Hruska, the chief executive of British-based Sophos PLC, the world’s fourth-largest anti-virus solutions provider.

“They have a chronic lack of girlfriends, are usually socially inadequate and are drawn compulsively to write self- replicating codes. It’s a form of digital graffiti to them,” Hruska added.

To create and spread cyber infections, virus writers explore known bugs in existing software, or look for vulnerabilities in new versions.

With more and more new OS (operating system) versions, there will be more new forms of viruses, as every single software or OS will carry new features, and new executables that can be carriers of the infection.

Executables are files that launch applications in a computer’s operating system, and feature more prominently in new platforms like Microsoft’s Windows 2000 and Windows XP than they did in the older DOS or Windows 3.1.

Virus writers also share information to create variants of the same infection, such as the Klez worm, which has been among the world’s most prolific viruses.

The Klez, a mass-mailing worm that originated in November 2001, propagates via e-mail using a wide variety of messages and destroys files on local and network drives.

But the news gets worse. Recent events have uncovered what may be a new trend: spammers paying virus writers to create worms that plant an open proxy, which the spammer then can use to forward spam automatically. Many suspect this occurred with the SoBig virus.

The Sobig worms, began spreading in the early part of 2003. The unusual thing about them was they contained an expiration date and were given a short life cycle to see how features worked in the wild.

Having an expiration date also makes the virus more dangerous, because most people would have been alerted to the new worm within a few weeks and anti-virus definitions would have been updated.

A variant of Sobig, Sobig-F was so efficient that just a few infected machines could send thousands of messages. Sobig-F created a denial-of-service effect on some networks, as e- mail servers became clogged with copies of the worm.

According to Mikko Hypponen, manager of anti-virus research for Finland-based F-Secure Corp, Sobig-F sent an estimated 300 million copies of itself.

Computer Economics, Inc. states, “Nearly 63,000 viruses have rolled through the Internet, causing an estimated $65 billion in damage.” However criminal prosecutions have been few, penalties light and just a handful of people have gone to prison for spreading the destructive bugs.

Why is so little being done? Antiquated laws and, for many years, as crazy as it sounds, a “wink, wink” or even admiring attitude toward virus creators.

One person has been sent to prison in the United States and just two in Britain, authorities say. But the low numbers are “not reflective of how seriously we take these cases, but more reflective of the fact that these are very hard cases to prosecute,” said Chris Painter, the deputy chief of computer crimes at the U.S. Department of Justice.

So what can you do to protect yourself against computer viruses?

Well, first and foremost, make sure you have proven anti-virus protection like like Symantec’s Norton Anti-Virus or McAfee’s ViruScan.

In addition, If you haven’t already done so, I highly recommend installing Microsoft’s Service Pack 2. SP2 tightens your PC’s security with a new Windows Firewall, an improved Automatic Updates feature, and a pop-up ad blocker for Internet Explorer. Plus, the newly minted Security Center gives you one easy-to-use interface for keeping tabs on your PC’s security apps.

“Male. Obsessed with computers. Lacking a girlfriend. Aged 14 to 34. Capable of creating chaos worldwide.”

Now, I’m no psychiatrist, but to me, the above description sounds more like someone with a few “bats in the belfry!”

Drew Miles Reviews Smart Year End Planning

Posted in Business News, Finance Online on the August 15th, 2008

5. Financial Vertigo: Clear your head

Although Pathfinder focuses on generating money, this lesson covers one of the biggest misconceptions we have about money: if we make more money, we’ll be better off. It doesn’t matter how much money we make, but rather how we spend and save it. Take two Pathfinder clients as examples: Client A worked at Home Depot making $30,000 a year and had his finances in order and spent less money than he made. He was financially free. Client B was a doctor making $250,000 a year and was financially upside down; as he received salary increases, he’d incrementally spend the increase and more.

The more people make, the more they spend. Being upside down financially affects every aspect of your life: family, marriage, leisure activities, emotional health and the list goes on. Whether you earn a salary of $50,000 and you spend $55,000 or if you’re organized and have your finances in a rowthere’s always room for improvement and new information to learn.

Purpose of the Pathfinder Program:

1. Learn how to get out of debt completely (including your home mortgage in nine years or less)2. Improve your relationships
3. Pay up to 50 percent less taxes each year
4. Learn how to make a smooth transition into retirement
5. Establish lasting wealth for generations to come

How To Build Your Credit Card Credit History

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 13th, 2008

Throughout your life you’re the history of you credit repayment will follow you. Ensuring, therefore, that you have a good prior history of borrowing money is vital. Insofar as credit cards are concerned, the following is a brief guide to how to build your credit card credit history.

If you have never financed a purchase on credit previously, applying for a credit card can be a little tricky, as the issuer will have no record of yours to judge whether or not you are a credit risk or safe to lend to. As such, before you apply for any of the major credit card issuers, you’ll likely need to apply to either a minor credit card issuer, such as store, or apply for some form of hire purchase, such as a car loan or to buy a television. Once you have done this, it is then very important that you make the repayments timely and in full.

Provided that you do pay your statement invoices on time and in full, you’ll start to create a good credit history. Obviously no lender will take one payment as evidence of your capabilities to repay your debt on time and in full. However, so long as you continue to this for a period of time, even a relatively short period of time, such as three or six months, you’ll then start to find that other lenders are willing to lend you money based on your good credit history.

If applying for a store card or hire purchase loan doesn’t seem an acceptable way for you to create a good history of credit, an alternative you can consider is a secured credit card. Essentially a secured credit card requires you to maintain your credit card from a bank account and the limit of your credit will be a percentage of your account holdings. While not strictly a credit arrangement, the issuer then gets to see that you have the capabilities to repay the credit.

Keep in mind that your credit rating will be essential to any credit card application you make. Consequently, before applying for a card you should really make an application to a credit rating agency to ensure that you have managed to build your credit card history up sufficiently not to have too much difficulty applying. In the event that you think the credit rating report is wrong, you should immediately set out the reasons why you think this to the agency so that you can correct any errors in you history before you apply for the credit card

The Beneficial Effects Of Vitamins On Your Digestive System

Posted in Marketing Hub on the August 12th, 2008

As much as we would like to deny it, the digestive system is our favorite system of the body. Why? Because it involves food of course. It is through the digestive system that the body is able to make use of the vitamins, minerals as well as the other nutrients that we consume daily. The digestive system actually breaks down the food that we put into our bodies until it is in a form that can be used by our cells in order to ensure our being healthy. However, not everything that we put into our mouths constitutes as being “healthy”, there are several vitamins and minerals that directly affect the quality and efficiency of the process of digestion. A conscious effort to consume the proper amounts of these nutrients daily is a good start towards having a well functioning digestive system.

First, let’s break down the digestive process, beginning in the mouth, with the saliva and the teeth. Healthy teeth are essential to proper chewing, which breaks down the food into teeny tiny pieces so that it can pass through the esophagus while the enzymes start on their work. Calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, Vitamin D and Vitamin C are all essential nutrients to having healthy teeth. Your teeth’s very structure depends greatly on these vitamins and minerals. Calcium and phosphorus are the primary building blocks of the teeth while Vitamin D helps enhance the calcium absorption by the body and rounding off this process of having healthy teeth are magnesium and vitamin C.

Vitamins that make up the vitamin B complex actually have a highly important role in keeping one’s digestive system working efficiently. Thiamin, or Vitamin B1 helps increase a persons appetite while it also keeps the nerves in good working order. Nerves, who are the “communicators” of the body, are important to the process of digestion, because it helps regulate the way we act and move, for example whenever we’re eating it’s actually our nerves who sends the message to our brains that the food is tasty or not or even when we’re already full or still wants some more. Niacin, or B3, is necessary for the health of the digestive tract as it contributes greatly to its general health and functioning as well as keeps its surfaces healthy. Niacin also helps to keep the tongue in good health and to be able to perform its role in the digestive process more efficiently. Vitamin B9, also known as folate, folic acid and folacin, is also important to the maintenance of the gastrointestinal tract. The bacteria in the digestive tract actually helps produce Vitamin K which is essential to the blood’s ability to clot.

There are many minerals that help out enzymes to break down food. It is highly important to not that without these minerals, our enzymes our not actually enough to be perform proper digestion in a person’s body and poor digestion can automatically lead to a lot of health problems. Manganese is just one of the minerals that helps out our enzymes during digestion, it also helps our bodies make use of whatever benefits that we can get from the food that we take. When it comes to regulating one’s appetites however, chromium is a vital mineral that greatly affects a person’s food cravings and daily intake.

Poor nutrition can actually lead to various problems in the digestive system which is why meeting the standard recommended daily amount of the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that your body needs is a good way to avoid poor digestion as well as the gastrointestinal illnesses that can be brought about by such negligence. Aside from a well-balanced diet and proper exercise, there’s no harm in actually taking some nutritional supplements to ensure that there’s no lack of nutrients in one’s body.
