Doc’s NHL Power Rankings (4th Edition)
The NHL season is already into the 2nd half of the season, as the leagues prepares to shutdown for 2 weeks to give way to the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. It will be very interesting to see how the teams respond once the break is completed. This long of a layoff certainly will affect the performance of the athletes, especially those not taking part in the games. This also is a major obstacle in handicapping the league and I would encourage you do cut back on the amount of action in the NHL until the teams have a full week of play under their belt.
Doc’s has been red hot in hockey as we picked up 12 units last night going 3-0, winning the games by an average of three goals per contest. We will carry this momentum into Friday’s card when we are set to release our NHL Game of the Month for February. This will be the only five-unit selection that we release in February and is the perfect way to go into the break on a positive note.
The Carolina Panthers have blown by the Ottawa Senators as the cream of the crop in the NHL. This team is young, but that has not factored, as Martin Gerber continues to get the job done between the pipes. This team recently bolstered their offense be acquiring Doug Weight from the St. Louis Blues. Will he provide the veteran leadership to carry them to the top? Only time will tell.
A team that has been struggling of late is the Philadelphia Flyers. They have lost three straight games and the loss of Peter Forsberg appears to be catching up to them. They need to stay within striking distance with the New York Rangers until Forsberg returns if they still have hopes of winning the Atlantic Division. The break could not have come at a better time for the Flyers.
The following is a list of the top-10 teams in the National Hockey League according to Doc’s Power Ranking.
1)Carolina Panthers- Everything appears in line for the Hurricanes to claim the top spot in the league. As of this writing, they have a three-point cushion and play in a weak division where they can pile up points against Florida, Washington, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. Assuming the Erics stay healthy, this team will be a tough out in the playoffs.
2)Ottawa Senators- The Sens have cooled off a little after a blistering start to the NHL season. This team has the make-up of a champion, with strong offense and a veteran goalie that has won big games in the past. They are still receiving pressure within the division from Buffalo and the winner of this race will likely host the first two rounds of the playoffs. The loser will only get one round home ice advantage.
3)Detroit Red Wings- The Wings have separated themselves from the Nashville Predators and appear to have taken control of the central. This is bad division, as only two teams will be making the playoffs. The Wings still must win games via their offense, as their goaltending is shaky with Manny Legacy in net. He continues to allow bad goal to get through him and that will keep them out of the Stanley Cup Finals.
4)Dallas Stars- The Stars have taken control of the Pacific leading by 12 points over the Kings. Marty Turco is a big time goalie and just signed an extension to stay with the team. This team likes to keep the score low and that is usually how games are decided once the playoffs come in April. This team is impossible to beat in a shootout, as they have emerged victorious in all eight of their chances this season.
5)Buffalo Sabres- The Sabres have quietly kept pace with the Senators despite not being picked up on the national radar. Marty Biron and Ryan Miller are both capable of winning big games in net. With Chris Drury holding down the captaincy, Buffalo could make to the Eastern Conference Finals.
6)New York Rangers- The Rangers have played outstanding hockey despite being picked as one of the worst team in hockey by numerous publications. This team has scored points in eight of their last ten games and has the best offensive player in the league in Jaromir Jagr. They have also allowed less then three goals per game, which is a formula for success in April.
7)Nashville Predators- The Preds continue to dominate at GEC, winning 21 of their 27 games played downtown. This is a team that did a good job in the off-season acquiring Paul Kariya to bolster the offense. Thomas Vokoun has had a good season in net but I do not see this team advancing past the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
8)Calgary Flames- This team has the make-up of a championship team but has failed to distance themselves in the Northwest Division. Just just three points separate four teams, but I feel the Flames will eventually pull away because of their netminder Miikka Kiprusoff. That being said, Jarome Iginla needs to assert himself as one of the best five players in the league. A surprising move was that they traded away Steve Reinprecht for a back-up goalie. I do not understand this trade, but Darryl Sutter has worked magic in the past.
9)Philadelphia Flyers- The Flyers need to tread water for this week, then they can expect a healthy Peter Forsberg to return after the break. They game up a late lead to the Rangers on Saturday and because of that find themselves in second place in the Atlantic. I do not believe the Rangers really scare this Flyer squad and expect them to make another run to regain the top spot in the Atlantic.
10)Vancouver Canucks- This teams has dominated the General Motors Place winning 19 of 25 games played there. The Canucks have a dominating offense led by Markus Naslund, who is just coming back from an injury. I expect this team to make the playoffs but wonder if the will be able to hold off the Flames in the standings.
That is how I rank the top-10 teams in the standing according to strength. There is still a lot of season left to play and with the Olympics looming momentum will definitely shift. Do not forget to sign-up for Doc’s NHL Game of the Month, which will go this Friday, February 10th, 2006. Doc’s has cashed this play at a 75% clip this season.
Early Stanley Cup Prediction: Dallas vs. Ottawa
Sven Goran Eriksson – Out !
Due to the fact that Sven Goran Eriksson is leaving the England Manager’s job after the World Cup in 2006, after his amicable agreement with the powers that be at the English F.A, I’m incensed that the whole tournament has now been put in jeopardy by these fools.
The whole episode has been unsavoury from start to finish, and must hinder our chances of winning the Cup. How can Eriksson now look our players in the eye and expect any sort of respect from them, after criticising them in public? How can we as fans hope that Eriksson will be able to inspire them to a victory? It is not possible.
The FA should have the balls to remove Eriksson NOW before the World Cup, and get in a new man for the job. The whole situation has been a massive cop out from start to finish by the F.A.
The most recent activity being published in the media by the FA now shows them to be eagerly searching for the next England manager – they claim that they want to have that decided before the World Cup. They want to be sure that they’ve got the right man.
Excuse me Mr Barwick of the FA, but it seems that for the last 3 weeks when the crap was flying, you were telling us all that you already have the right man. You tell us that Sven is the man to lead us to World Cup glory.
If he’s the right man now, why then is he going immediately after the World Cup? The FA have him on contract for another 2 years after that, so why not keep him on?
The FA were also were also telling us that they wanted whole sorry mess cleared up quickly, so that they can all get on with the most important thing – World Cup preparations, without any distractions.
If that’s so why not wait until after the cup? Seems to me that when they decide on a new manager, there will be the same media circus all over again. No distractions…don’t make me laugh.
England have got a great chance of winning the World Cup this time, and I for one do not want to watch us go out with a whimper in the Quarter finals devoid of ideas, because of an incompetant, overpaid puppet as manager…
Sven Goran Eriksson Out? – Fine by Me.
Looking for Cheap Batting Cages? Here’s some Basic Advice
Cheap batting cages can be found in a number of places. One option is to look in your local newspaper for garage sales or in the ads under sporting equipment for sale. Garage sales would probably be a good place to look for smaller, cheap batting cages. It might also be possible to buy cheap batting cages from a school or recreation facility during an equipment upgrade.
Another option for finding cheap batting cages is to look online. Many sports equipment dealers have web sites, as well as individuals who are selling their sports equipment on the Internet, many of whom will be able to offer good deals. However, you should be careful that you obtain a warranty or guarantee on the item you are purchasing, especially if the item is used. If the item is of lesser quality than you were led to believe, it will be necessary for you to have a means to return it and get your money back.
Even used batting cages typically cost hundreds of dollars, but discounts may be available if you build one yourself. If you’re interested in making your own batting cage, pipe for the frame can be purchased at a hardware store and netting can be purchased from a sports equipment dealer. You can purchase complete batting cage kits online, with varying prices, depending on the size and quality of the cage. Instructions for putting together your own batting cage are usually fairly simple. In addition, you will experience the satisfaction of having built something impressive and useful with your own handss

A Short Guide to Gaming Establishment Wagering: the Games of Luck Gamblers Enjoy Playing
In case you haven’t got the picture on gambling saloon games of luck, please keep reading…
Typically, a gaming room is a building that features wagering. Here, visitors may take a chance by challenging the slot-machines or alternative gambling games. Betting saloon games mainly include logically derived percentages incorporated which insure the management reserves its advantage above the gambling fans. Rather a lot of casino games can get you dependent speedily. We can consider the famous slot-machine, a cash operated contraption with three, occasionally more drums which gyrate when a handle attached to it is wrenched. The instrument frequently pays out correlating with a range of logos shown on the display of the contraption. Sadly, gambling house games suggest the glamor of having the upper hand, effectively hoodwinking the gambling aficionado — the addressee is tasked with choices, but in actual fact these won’t realistically match up the player’s statistical handicap. This is caused by the the betting saloon never paying up the full wager as expected. This scheme is continuously noticeable in well known casino games like Texas hold’em, craps, roulette or blackjack.
Texas hold’em is undeniably an immensely fashionable casino pastime. The clients, religiously guarding their partially covered cards, bet in a principal pot which is finally granted to the last player in possession of the best hand. (As everybody knows, the coolest bluffing hand may well prevail as well.) Analogous to seven-card stud, blackjack is also an incredibly fashionable casino game. A considerable portion of its appeal is by virtue of its particular mix of luck and technique and choice making, and a process named “counting”. The aforementioned is a very complex technique in which gambling devotees may reverse the arm of chance of the card game to give them an advantage both by betting and tactical actions based on the cards shown. Craps is yet another well known casino wagering game where you must wager on the roll of two dice. Clients are placing bets on the score of one cycle, or on a string of cycles of two dice. In contrast to blackjack, there can’t be a easily available long term killer strategy people could make use of to improve the odds. Roulette is another celebrated casino based game: a croupier whirls a roulette wheel that accommodates a set of thirty-seven (as in European roulette) or precisely thirtyeight (Vegas roulette) differently marked places in which a pellet will settle, revealing the final winning number and its accompanying combinations. Supposing that our gamer wagers on any given number which strikes it so it’s having a streak of luck, the premium is 35:1, the original pledge proper being returned. Thus in total it’s increased by thirty-six.
Do make a point of being very on guard however, as many of those gambling house games of chance should be deemed extremely habituating. So many lives are reported to have been spoilt as a result of inordinate gambling & even if it can be enjoyable, aspire to practise self governance.
FIFA World Cup 2006 England Glory – 1966 / 2006
It surely has a nice ring to it and would be a dream come true for the plethora of England fans who have never yet witnessed the creator of ‘the beautiful game’ bring home the goods.
Although England have a pretty favourable group, with Paraguay, Trinidad & Tobago, and the dreaded Sweden; they will come through the group stages to the finals and then, with a bit of luck, stomp all over the opposition with verve and tenacity; if Wayne Rooney keeps his head that is.
As well as possibly being a contender for the coveted Golden Boot Award, Wayne Rooney is the key to England’s success in World Cup 2006 and the rest of the team and world know it. The guy is a physiological freak in terms of the sheer power and depth of attack in his possession and will simply rip through the best defences that any of the world’s toughest may throw his way. He already proved this in Euro 2004, Portugal, where he was a constant worry for the opposition and, of course, does so every week at Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney is simply one man, though, and cannot do the job alone; he will need pace man magician Michael Owen at his very best, Beckham curling em in sweetly from the right, Frank Lampard bulldozing through the middle and Mr Sven Goran Eriksson not doing his usual trick of messing with formations and pulling off players at the wrong moment. In fact, England hasn’t had such a brilliant compilation of players the country has seen in years; it’s whether they can gel at the right time and do what the rugby lads did in 2003.
One thing is certain though and perhaps will never change; anyone and everyone faced with England, ups their game rate by a noticeable margin. It seems that everyone wants to beat the ‘Auld Enemy’; hardly surprising beings as the country with the once largest of empires has, at one time or another, trounced on or been instrumental in shaping the modern world as we know it. It seems logical that someone would want to get their own back by beating the national football team.
Many of the England naysayers believe that the England team lacks the personality and passion to bring home the cup. Although a personality is great for the cameras, the one ingredient that is surely more important is playing the game of football and scoring goals, and with the current England line up we have the best chance since 1966. Roll on World Cup 2006…
The Truth about Karate for Kids – Part 1
Do you want to give your child everything in life you never had? Of course you do; you want to give your child all of the opportunities that you didn’t have. That’s what every responsible parent wants for his or her children. However, it’s hard to keep up with all the new and expensive toys available today.
Can you imagine giving your child a gift that has twelve valuable life skills and one more benefit – on top of those twelve skills? As you already know, it’s not the latest ipod or Xbox, but your child will be very successful in life, as a result. You may have heard all this talk about life skills before, but the explanations were vague, so let’s make the explanations and results clear.
Life Skills are the self-improvement skills that we, as adults, need in order to be more successful in life; but children and adults can acquire them in a Karate class. Adults usually visit the self-improvement section of a library, bookstore, or shop on the Internet, to reprogram their minds for success. Sometimes, adults stay with a self-improvement program, and many times – they don’t.
For children in their formative years, Karate classes have a very positive impact, and shape their lives toward a path of continuous achievement. Children will stay with a self-improvement program, such as Karate, as long as they get transportation.
Positive Thinking
Within a typical Karate class, children learn to think about the next hurdle in life. The only hurdle to focus on is the lesson plan that their Karate instructor presents for the day. This could be as simple as learning, or reviewing, a few Karate techniques. Once this has been accomplished, any child can walk away from his or her Karate class with a very positive feeling of gratification.
It is this repetition of focusing, learning, solving, and accomplishing that contributes to the positive mind-set in all Karate practitioners of all ages. When a parent reinforces these same habits at home, the young Karate student learns that staying positive, in the face of adversity, will yield many benefits and solutions in life.
Stress Management
Children are no different than adults, and they are subjected to more everyday stress than we were as children. This is why the Karate studio is a haven for children and a place to leave stress behind and focus on simple tasks. For children, Karate class is quality time spent living in the moment, enjoying life right now, without worrying about the past or future.
Karate classes give kids a chance to jump, kick, punch, and shout at the appropriate times. Many times, I mention to the children at our facility, in North Providence, that they should take advantage of the times when they can shout. Within the structure of a kids Karate class, there is a time to speak up, and a time to listen, in order to get the most out of each Karate lesson.
Through steady Karate practice, children learn to put stress aside and focus on getting the most out of life. They also learn that when stress comes their way, it’s time to work on solutions rather than become depressed about them. Young karate students accept stress for what it is, and rise to the opportunity to become successful in life.

How to buy a sports gift for Fathers day
Every dad that is a sports fan would love a gift from their favorite team or sports figure for father’s day. Getting them the perfect gift is sometimes a hard thing to figure out but I have it down to a science. Here are some things to take into mind before buying a gift for a Dad.
1) Find out their favorite sport or favorite sports team always helps in making a decision.
2) The sport’s fan size for apparel or headwear is very Important. Think about a custom fit hat, you wouldn’t want to get the wrong size.
3) Did they attend a college if so they are an alumni you can never go wrong with a sports gift from their college team. It also builds team spirit. 4) What type of clothes they normally like (example) Don’t buy a sweater of a team if the sports fan don’t wear sweaters. Get Him a hat instead. Odds are they would rather have that instead.
5) If they tailgate they can always use new tailgating stuff Example BBQ, new cooler, Portable chair, They always need to be replaced evry year. 6) If buying sports equipment make sure you know if they are right handed or left handed. Right handed Golf clubs does a lefty any good at all. 7) If they play golf they need golf shoes, tees and balls are always needed as balls get lost and shoes get very stinky when they get old.
Lastly you can’t go wrong with a sports gift basket, it always gets a smile.

Baseball season is finally over. Would anyone really complain if they cut about 12 games off the season (is 150 not enough?). Now at least we wont have to hear about ‘the curse’, now we just have to take care of that goat and all will be well.
Is there really any doubt that Carlos Beltran is going to wind up a Yankee? He has gone from being one of the most underappreciated players in the game with the Royals, to having one of the greatest postseason performances. That one series against the Cardinals might have earned him the difference between a 10 to 12 mil a year to now a 16 to 18 mil a year.
It is about time to squash any and all talk of a ‘quarterback controversy’ in Cincinnati. The Bengals are not a contender, not yet at least. Why not let Carson Palmer play now, take his lumps now, so that in a year or two when the whole team is in a position to contend so will he. What good will playing Jon Kitna really do for the Bengals, at best he may be the difference between a 6-10 and an 8-8 season. Either way long term playing Palmer now is the best move for the Bengals, and I applaud Marvin Lewis for the foresight, and the courage to make such a move despite all the criticism.
Does anyone really miss the NHL?
If Jason White won the Hiesman last year, and now this year Adrian Peterson is the best player on the same team as White, how is Peterson not the favorite to win the Hiesman?

Top 14 Tips for Selecting A Golf School
With the increase in number of schools for learning Golf, it has become necessary for the learner to find out a school that suits him best from all the angles. Here are the tips for selecting a Golf School:
1. When the institute was established and how many members they have. Since when they are into coaching. 2. What type of golf course they have? Is it 18 holes, 22 holes, 27 holes or more? 3. Do they organize tournaments regularly (a lot of learning is possible by the learner by simply watching good players)? 4. The school should have sound credentials. If possible, find out from other sources about the claims they make. 5. Try to get the record of accomplishment of the schools by talking to people who either are learning there or have completed the training and now practicing there or elsewhere. 6. Get details from other such schools, make your own assessment/comparison and decide. If a school offers any guarantee, the same should be crosschecked with schools. 7. Find out the details of the program they have for the learners. What methodology they follow in coaching the students. 8. How many students have completed their training and where they are. Have they trained/produced national/international golfers? 9. What kind of facilities they have? Do they have the facility to learn Uphill, Downhill, Side hill, Sand and trouble shots? 10. Can one learn all types of shots during training or some shots they do not teach during training? 11. Do they have separate ground for training? 12. What type of facilities for learning/improving the Swing. Do they have a Video that can analyze the swing? If yes, it will be better because one can learn by seeing his shots on the video and find out where and what is wrong in it. You can improve/ accelerate your learning curve by watching and practicing. 13. Do they customize the training program according to the needs / skills of the individual or these are common to all. This may be very crucial in deciding as one would always like to have a tailor made learning package so that he can get best out of the training. 14. Do they have covered ground for learning, this is important because if it rains continuously for days together one may lose his training time resulting into loss of total training days/hours?
Follow these tips, and selecting the right golf school becomes a no brainer.
Laundrym
I just got this new laundrymachine. It’s an all stainless steel LG front-loading washing machine. It was supposed to be the best out thereon the market for the money. I alsogot the matching dryer. All together, theywere a pretty good deal. The only think is thatthey are already starting to break down.Afew days ago,the washerstarted to make this crazy noise. It sounds like a dying cat that got stuck in an echo machine. It is not a good sound. I have tried to fix it by using the force. I have played music for it and even talked to it late at night. Nothing seems to work. No matter what I do, it still makes the sound. I even tried old reliable, kicking it. I thought that finally I had fixed it; there was no more noise. For the next few washes, it just hummed like a kitten. Then out of nowhere, the sound came back. And it came with a vengeance; I guess that my kick to the side had upset the washer. I must have decided to take a few days off and re-think the offense. Now the sound is worse than ever, I tried to use the factory warranty, but apparently you actually have to send them in. I did not. Now Iam going to have to pay to have the thing fixed.
